Wellington Airport contributes $2 billion to GDP
BERL was commissioned by Wellington International Airport Limited (WIAL) to provide an estimate of the economic value that the airport, passengers travelling through the airport, and associated WIAL businesses contribute to the Wellington regional economy.
This research highlights that Wellington International Airport serves as a vital economic hub connecting local, regional, national, and international communities.
The analysis found that WIAL facilitates and provides a significant economic contribution to the Wellington regional economy. It generates a total of $2 billion in gross domestic product (GDP) and supports over 14,500 jobs (as measured by full-time equivalents (FTEs)) in total.
These results indicate the significant role the airport plays, particularly in the context of international passenger numbers still operating at around 81 percent of pre-COVID-19 levels.
