Giving New Zealand 2011
Last week, AFFCO locked out 762 workers indefinitely after talks between AFFCO and the NZ Meat Workers Union broke down. The 762 workers are said to represent 70 percent of the meat workers across Moerewa, Horotiu, Imlay, Wairoa and Manawatu plants.
In the year to April 2012, a new record high of 53,500 people left New Zealand for Australia. This is just up from the previous record high of 53,200 people who left for Australia in March 2012. The new record high was the main reason total overall departures from New Zealand increased 12.7 percent for the year to April 2012, to 87,800. Migration wasn’t all one way, with 13,700 Aussies moving to New Zealand. The result was a net loss to Australia of 39,800 for the year to April 2012.
Established by a group of practising economists in 1957, BERL initially provided quarterly forecasts and assessments of the New Zealand economic situation. From these early days, BERL has developed to become the leading provider of economic research, analysis, advice and consultancy for business and public sector clients.
BERL has a long relationship with Wellington on a Plate. Well, at least as long as Wellington on a Plate has been around. Wellington on a Plate is now in its third year so a little bit longer than that.
